Mixed results for Men's Second Team
Mar 19, 2011, 3:27 pm

In the London League Winter competition our Men's second team beat Enfield 11-9 on Thursday night at Hillingdon. We had five junior players in the team and each of them scored at least one goal. Well done guys!

Our match a few days earlier on Monday night vs Eastern Otter was less successful, losing 7-9 on the night, mainly due to a shortage of players through illness.

Nadine brings home the medals from Middlesex Masters
Jun 23, 2011, 8:42 pm

Nadine Kline and Monty Verdugo may have been the sole Penguin swimmers at this year's Middlesex Masters competition on Sunday 5 June, but they did a great job!

Swimming in the 35-39 age group, Nadine took golds in both the 100m IM and 50m Breast, and bronze in the 50m Free.

Monty, competing in the fiercely competitive 30-34 category, finished 4th in the 50 free and 9th in the 100m IM.

Well done both.

Penguin women take on the best in the British Water Polo Championship semifinals
Feb 23, 2011, 7:29 pm

Penguin Ladies took on the best of the UK water polo teams the British Championships at Manchester at the weekend.

Our first game was the semi final against favourites City of Manchester. They took an early 5-0 lead by the end of the first quarter. We got on the scoreboard with two goals before the half time whistle but our two goals were matched by another two from Manchester as they went 7-2 up.

There was little we could do as the home team began to run away with the match, winning it 11-6. This put us in the third/fourth play-off next day against London rivals Otter.

The London derby needed extra time to find a winner. After a 5-5 draw in normal time, we lined up to contest two further periods of three minutes each. Near misses and close saves kept the first period goalless, but Penguin’s Lorelle Dooley fired the deciding shot that won us the match, 6-5.

Penguin Rockhoppers get off to a good start
Sep 19, 2011, 8:45 pm

On Saturday 17th of September 2011, an eager team of 8 Rockhoppers – minus goalie - made their way to Walsall Gala Baths to play their first British League weekend in Div 3. The team was coached and supported by Nori and joined by Nuci as assistant coach.

The first game was against our rivals from London: Otter Lutra. The Rockhoppers had a great start, and scored in the second minute of first quarter. Otter however, had a slower start and didn't equalise until the second quarter. Throughout the 2nd and 3rd quarters the match was very close with Otter finally leading 5:4 at the end of the 3rd quarter. Thanks to good communication and team play, we were able to score four goals in the last quarter, while Otter only scored three. With Nori and Zsofia receiving 2 kickouts, we eventually drew the match 8:8.

The second match was against the quick and young team from Carlisle. Bob got 3 majors! In fact, everyone got at least one except Emma and Fiona Greer. Even our assistant coach Nuci contributed to the statistics by receiving a yellow card. Great team play and commitment finally led to goals from Nori, Laura, Fee Greer and Zsof. The final score of the match was 10:10.

Last but definitely not least, many thanks to our “goalie” Michaela who did an incredible job in saving those attacks!!

Overall, the first British League weekend was a good start for the 3rds, as the team pulled together well and showed a determined fighting spirit.

Well done everyone and see you all in Liverpool!

Penguin ladies make it to the semi finals of the Spring Cup
May 26, 2011, 8:23 pm

Playing in round 3 of the Spring Cup in Grantham on 14 May, Penguin women won their matches against Sheffield and local rivals Otter, but lost games against the two Liverpool teams.

This was enough to finish second in our group and take us into the semi finals in Walsall on Saturday 28 May where we'll play Liverpool Water Beatles for a place in the final which will be played later that day.
