Ladies London League Division 2
May 10, 2010, 1:28 pm

Penguin Ladies are playing in Division 1 and Divsion 2 of this year's London League.

Division 2 fixtures started on 2nd May at Whitgift where we faced Southampton, Basingstoke and Beckenham.

We beat Southampton 3-1 with goals from Hana, Lily and Julia, and lost narrowly 2-4 to Basingstoke with goals from Rachel and Lily. Fighting tiredness in the final game we played well and beat Beckenham 6-2 with goals from Hana, Lily, Rachel and Jenny.

The team consisted predominantly of 3rd team players, with additional support of Lorelle from the 1sts playing in goal and Rachel from the 2nds in the field.

Next round is on 16th May.

Wedding bells are in the air...
Jul 5, 2011, 9:13 am

John (Shakey) Lake has at last popped the question and, surprisingly enough, Joan said "Yes"!  They are to be married at the Lensbury Club, Teddington, on Friday 22nd July 2011, in the company of their families and a few close friends.

Elsewhere, Penguin Masters swimmer Ruth had a 30th birthday to remember when boyfriend David proposed and she accepted. Wedding date is still to be decided, but probably May next year.

Congratulations to both couples.

London League Juniors tournament
Jul 5, 2011, 9:03 am

Unluckily for Penguin, this weekend's London League Junior tournament clashed with a Duke of Edinburgh weekend and half of our team were away on that trip.

Whilst we had seven players lined up to play, one fell ill and we could only field six players at the tournament. We borrowed a player for each of the five games that we played and the boys did really well, winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 2.

Penguin Juniors coach, Paul Bryan, explained that the tournament was especially tough for Penguin. "Given that the other teams were only playing three games each having attended the 1st tournament that we missed out on, our performance in the later games when we were tired was excellent. I'm really proud of them. A fantastic close range save from our goalie at the very end of the last match gave us a draw against the tournament runners up."

Penguin Ladies progress to the next round of the Spring Cup
Mar 16, 2010, 3:18 pm

After winning all three games in the second round of the Spring Cup in Grantham this weekend, our women's first team are safely through to the next round. This was a great result.

Thank you to all who played, in particular to Nora who managed to make it there to play in just one game. You were a welcome sight as we had been playing with only one sub for the first two games! Also, well done to Maddy on your first weekend away playing with us.

Round 3 matches are on 10 April in Walsall.

Spring Cup - results from the first round
Mar 9, 2010, 2:24 pm

Round 1 of the Spring Cup took place this weekend with Penguin Ladies A and B playing in Hucknall and Walsall respectively.

Despite a 5am start to travel out of London and both teams being 'flu ridden, our A team won most of their games and they progress to Round 2 in Grantham on the 14th March.

Our B team weren’t as successful, so they move into the Plate part of the competition, to be held in Walsall on the 20th March.

Thanks to Mark who stepped in to coach the second team girls this weekend.

Penguin women take silver in the Spring Cup
Apr 20, 2010, 1:51 pm

Penguin first team were in Corby on Saturday 17 April for the semi finals and finals of the National Women's Water Polo League Spring Cup.

Our opponents in the semi finals were London rival Otter A. At the end of the fourth quarter the score was tied so a penalty shoot-out ensued. Penguin took the victory and the place in the final, 9-8.

In the final we were up against Manchester A. Again it was a tight contest but we didn't quite have the killer instinct and Manchester took the game and the tournament title, 6-4.

Although disappointed not to have won, it was a very successful tournament for the Penguin 1st Team, conceding only 3 goals across all of their matches and winning the silver medal.

Well done girls!

Congratulations
