'Twixmas swim at Hampton Pool
Dec 1, 2013, 4:38 pm

Winter swimmer at Hampton PoolIt's something of a tradition for Penguins to gather at Hampton open air heated pool for a 'Twixmas swim. This year our festive dip will be on Friday 27 December at 10am.

The pool is usually pretty busy so don't expect a full training session but we should be able to do a few lengths and it is a fantastic feeling to be swimming in the open air in December as the steam rises off the water.

Hope to see you here!

PS: don't forget to bring some money for a coffee and bacon sandwich in the cafe afterwards.

RIP
Nov 1, 2013, 1:47 pm

We are sad to have lost two members from the Penguin family in recent weeks.

Val Forbes, wife of longstanding Club member Graham, had been fighting a brave battle against cancer for several years. Through all of her treatment Val remained smiling and positive, and kept up her favourite pastime - dancing - for as long as possible. In her memory Graham has set up a Justgiving page to raise money for Marie Curie Cancer Care: www.justgiving.com/val-forbes.

Kenny Power joined the Club as a junior in the '50s. He represented Penguin in swimming and waterpolo and also played water polo for Middlesex. He is famously remembered for his midnight swim across the Thames and back again in the week before Christmas one year! His funeral will be held on Thursday 7th November, 11.45am at Amersham Crematorium, Whielden Lane HP7 0ND.

Our thoughts are with Val's and Kenny's families.

Gill Turner's inspiring achievement
Oct 14, 2013, 9:17 am

Gill Turner on the Coast to Coast walkBig congratulations to Penguin Masters swimmer Gill Turner on completing the challenging Coast to Coast walk recently.

Alfred Wainwright’s classic 192 mile walk crosses England from the Irish Sea at St Bees to the North Sea at Robin Hood’s Bay, traversing the Lake District, the Pennines and the North York Moors.

Gill swapped costume, hat and goggles for walking boots and waterproofs to complete the route, covering between 9 - 17 miles per day (with one day of 21 miles) and daily ascents of between 1,000 feet and 2,400 feet.

At 71 years young, Gill is one of our longest-standing members and this achievement - along with her dedication to swimming and the Club - is truly inspiring.

Well done, Gill!
