Our Women’s Third Team playing as ‘Penguin Rockhoppers’ had their first British League fixture in Middlesbrough on Saturday 25 September. It was a very early start and a long trek. Numbers were low, with only 2 subs.
The first game was against Manchester D, a team of young nippers who had a full bench of subs. We were focussed and determined, and took a 7-3 victory.
The second game was against the Southampton Sirens – a new team playing their first season in the League. We were exhausted from our first game, but fought admirably until the end, losing 6-11.
Everyone played well individually and as a team. Special mentions to Marijke for some spectacular goalkeeping and to Laura who made her debut for the Rockhoppers with some intelligent drives and terrier-like defence. That said, all the girls excelled themselves and it was an encouraging start to the season. Well done Rockhoppers!
