Unluckily for Penguin, this weekend’s London League Junior tournament clashed with a Duke of Edinburgh weekend and half of our team were away on that trip.
Whilst we had seven players lined up to play, one fell ill and we could only field six players at the tournament. We borrowed a player for each of the five games that we played and the boys did really well, winning 2, drawing 1 and losing 2.
Penguin Juniors coach, Paul Bryan, explained that the tournament was especially tough for Penguin. “Given that the other teams were only playing three games each having attended the 1st tournament that we missed out on, our performance in the later games when we were tired was excellent. I’m really proud of them. A fantastic close range save from our goalie at the very end of the last match gave us a draw against the tournament runners up.”
