Well done to Penguin Vicky Miller who, with three other swimmers in Team Mambo, swam the English Channel as a relay on Tuesday 16 July.
The original team comprised all Penguin water polo girls and was set to go in September 2012 but their attempt was delayed due to poor conditions. Then Bronwyn Donne got married and Julia Hornig moved to Texas so a new team was assembled for 2013.
The foursome successfully completed the swim in 10 hours 40 minutes, significantly faster than they had expected thanks to perfect weather and sea conditions beyond anything they could have hoped for. Although starting in the dark and swimming through seaweed and thousands of jellyfish presented their own challenges!
Vicky has been fundraising for the World Food Programme, a charity ran by the UN that helps the millions of people hungry around the world. She is hugely grateful for everyone’s generous donations which has taken the total to over £2500. www.justgiving.com/VickyChannelSwim
