We are sad to report that Norman Massey died on Monday 29 July 2013 of a heart attack at the grand age of 92.
Norman joined Penguin in 1938, aged 17. He was a talented swimmer and water polo player who was Club Captain in 1956 and was later made a life member of Penguin in recognition of his achievements. He made many friends through the Club, enjoying the competition as well as the social events, and spoke about them often after he emigrated to Australia in 1970. He has stayed in touch in recent years via his daughter Rae.
Norman features in most of our photos from the 1940s and 50s and in several of the press cuttings which he kindly donated to our archive. He also donated other items of Penguin memorabilia including medals and a number of commemorative tankards.
Our condolences go to Rae and the Massey family.
