Under 15s find their feet in the London League

Post by Paul Bryan

A very young combined Penguin and Enfield team competed in the first London League under 15’s tournament at Whitgift school in Croydon on Saturday 15th June. Our first game, against a more experienced Ealing side, was the first time a number of the younger players had competed and it showed as we struggled to come together as a team, losing 8-0.

We were also losing heavily against a much older Chelmsford side, when an unexpected fire alarm at the pool gave us an opportunity to get outside and re-group. The second half was a significant improvement and we held our opponents to a 3-all draw during this period. Although we lost the game overall it subsequently transpired that some of the Chelmsford team were not eligible to play, so the result has now been reversed.

Our final game was against a more evenly-matched side in Croydon and the steady improvement throughout the afternoon shone through with some good team goals and a win at 8-5.

So an ultimately successful tournament with two wins recorded out of three games as this new team starts out its playing experience.

Many thanks to all the parents for helping to get players to the tournament and for your support. Next round is back at home in Hillingdon on the 28th June.
