Our women’s first team, Penguin Emperors, travelled to Grantham today (Sunday 2nd November) to contest the final game of Division 2 against Tyldesley. With a score of 9-2 we remain undefeated and have cemented our position at the top of Division 2 at the end of the first half of the British Water Polo League. We will now go on to compete in Championship 1 for the rest of the season.
We faced Tyldesley with a strong squad of 11, although we were missing key players including captain Fiona Greer. I stepped up and was proud to to lead the team to a sound victory, with three goals under my cap in the process. We had a slow start with some missed opportunities but we held a 2-0 lead at quarter time. We won the next quarter 4-1, extending our lead to 6-1 at halftime.
We had a mixed second half but kept control of the game to win 9-2. Strong play from the team featured stand-out performances by goalie Katie Collins, Hannah Boyd and Amy Middlemast. Goal of the match goes to Vicky Miller with a counter down the left side.
Thanks again to coach John Lake for his control of the game from the sideline.
Congratulations all in winning Division 2, and here’s to continued success in Championship 1.
