On Thursday 10th March some of our youngest juniors competed in the final of the London Youth Games Mini Polo tournament. The event was held at Crystal Palace in the shallow pool, situated on the level below the main pool.
There were nine teams representing the London Boroughs of Islington, Wandsworth, Tower Hamlets, Kingston, Havering, Brent, Ealing, Hillingdon and Haringey.
The Competition Director and main organiser is our very own Ian Grimwood.
Hillingdon Borough Council (LBH) paid for two training session and nine new Mikasa size 3 balls; they also provided a minibus to get us there on the day and t-shirts for the whole team. LBH Sports Development department pride themselves on the lurid colour of their t-shirts, hoping to stand out from the other boroughs; going one better than the orange of last year our team was resplendent in fluorescent lime green.

The team was coached by Claudio Palumbo our Junior Head Coach. In the event, the team failed to get past the group stage, but as we usually play the deep water version of the game, we were unconcerned by this.
Claudio said ‘Thank you for the amazing day spent with the Team, we were unlucky and this is a different game from the water polo we usually play, but I think the guys did a good job and I hope they enjoyed the experience.’
Altogether a fun day out and a good team building exercise for the children, who were delighted to get a day off school and have the opportunity to represent their Borough at such a prestigious event.
The team were Ramsey Hammoutene, Joshua Pan, Levi Malhi, Abelardo Cardenas, Inesh Warnapala, Nikola Christov, Jay Jadega, Maya Knezevic and Helena Furmston. all aged 10 or 11.
