The Hillingdon Penguin U13 team experienced their first win in a London Water Polo League tournament, against Bexley on Sunday 17 April at the Whitgift School in Croydon. The squad has been training under coaches Paul Bryan and Claudio Palumbo. The standard of competition, especially against local clubs Watford, and Ealing, but also Beckenham and Croydon has been very high. Playing as U12s the team were unsuccessful, although we were encouraged by a couple of draws.

This crucial win makes us very excited about the future of this team. They have formed a very positive unit. A particularly notable performance came from Abelardo Cardenas, who worked tirelessly both in attack and defence and is shaping up to be an outstanding player. Antonio Bardella has great skill at scoring. Ben Mason finally broke his duck and scored, hopefully the first of many goals. But it is unfair to pick out names as the whole team are striving so hard.

The photograph shows the team resplendent in their new kit: polo shirts and swimming costumes provided by the Postcode Community Trust. The kit is tremendous boost in helping to build a competitive team identity. Postcode Community Trust is a grant-giving charity funded entirely by players of People’s Postcode Lottery.
