Anderson Jolly wins Jack Petchey Award for March 2018

Anderson Jolly - April 18 Jack Petchey Award winner

The winner of the Jack Petchey Achievement Award for March 2018 is Anderson Jolly. Why? In three words: leadership, commitment and discipline.

Anderson, who is 15, joined the Club in December 2016. He was a strong swimmer, but new to water polo. It didn’t take him long to master the basics of the game and move to the Advanced group. At our end of term fun tournaments, Anderson has captained teams to victory on four occasions, showing what a great tactician he is.

His coach, Aloka, says, “Anderson at a young age has shown great stature in the form of leadership and discipline. He is a player with huge potential who remains humble and simple yet plays the game hard.”

We are grateful to the Jack Petchey Foundation for their support.

New goal in use at Hillingdon

The Hillingdon Juniors were fortunate to receive a Small Grant Award from the Jack Petchey foundation of £750 towards the cost of new equipment. We used this to help buy a new goal. This was urgently needed as our existing goals are suffering from wear and tear.

The goal arrived last week and we hoped to use it for our End of Term Fun Tournament on Saturday 24 March. The supplier had assured us that it would be simple to assemble. In the event, it wasn’t simple at all and required tools we didn’t have. We had to start the tournament without it but Sam, a very determined mum, refused to give in and enlisted another parent, Anton, and one of the Fusion team leaders, to work on it. After an hour it was more-or-less built and they managed to get it in the water just in time for the final game.

We will complete the assembly after Easter. A complicated challenge brought out the best in our section. Great to see the parents seize the opportunity and take responsibility to provide a better experience for the children.

Our new Juniors team, Latymer Penguin, played their first tournament on 4 March. The U14 Team played three matches: against Croydon Anphibians (won 4-1), Chelmsford (lost 2-5) and Watford B (won 7-2). This was a great start putting us joint top on points but finishing in overall second place on goal difference.

The winner of the Jack Petchey Award for November 2017 is Michelangelo Tritto.

Mickey, who is 17, joined the club in February 2017. He was already a skilful player through his school, John Lyon. Training with Penguin has enabled him to improve his playing further and he has competed with the Enfield under-18 team. He has also gained refereeing skills.

Above all, it is the many hours volunteering, coaching our beginners and youngest members in the Development Squad, that makes him stand out.

Mickey is always welcoming, polite and caring. Shaun, the Development Squad coach, is full of praise for how well Mickey supports him and how excellent he is at controlling and encouraging the under-12s.
